Overall the build was smooth, entertaining and a trip down memory lane. The only issues were tight threading into some of the clear plastics, and the same with threading the ball cups onto the turnbuckles, and then the kit uses SAE hardware, requiring SAE tools to build.
I'd only recommend this kit to people that have experience building rc10s. The directions are the newer style directions that omit the text descriptions of each step the original directions come with. It's not always obvious the little details it takes to build this older design right.
The directions call for the use of thread locker on various steps. Online reports from other builders state the clear plastics can not handle being exposed to thread locker and can fracture. I built mine without.
Each of the 4-40 screw mounts should be pre-tapped. A main has the part https://www.amainhobbies.com/dubro-tap-drill-set-440-standard-metric-dub361/p14182 that should be correct. As well a proper hex driver should be used https://www.amainhobbies.com/mip-thorp-hex-driver-.050-mip9000/p14502
The hex keys included with the kit are not sufficient and simply are inappropriate to use with the clear plastics.
With those pain points out of the way it was great to build an RC10 from new in box parts. The kit is compatible original Cadillac rc10 parts. It looks great fully assembled and feels sturdy. All of the parts have a quality feel to them. All of the steel parts of the kit have a finished applied to them to keep them from rusting when on display. While the suspension parts are made of clear plastic. The drivetrain is all metal and nylon. There isn't a reason why this wouldn't be able to run just fine.
The kit looks squarely aimed at collectors and I fit in that category. I did overall enjoy the build and the novelty of it, more thoughtful directions would have greatly improved the experience. For the $399 price this should be a premium experience and it doesn't land there.
Thank you Amain Hobbies !!!
