Model Kit Overview:

Tamiya 1/48 German 38cm Assault Mortar Sturmtiger Plastic Model Kit. This rare WWII German armored fighting vehicle (AFV) featured a fearsome 38cm mortar mounted upon the iconic Tiger I chassis. It was developed for use against heavily fortified enemy positions, against which it would fire 1.5m long 350kg rocket-powered projectiles that could travel up to 6,000m. The Sturmtiger's fighting compartment was also well equipped in terms of survivability, with 150mm of frontal armor and 82mm on the sides. The rarity of this AFV may have been due to only 18 being produced between August and December of 1944, and the 65-ton weight that made the tank hard to maneuver. Regardless, they proved to be a frightening foe to those who did encounter them in the Battle of the Bulge, the Warsaw Uprising, and the invasion of the German homeland.
