Yeah Racing Aluminum Clamping 12mm Hex (Black) (4) (8mm)
I’m not sure how to write this review, because I’m a big fan of YEAH Racing parts, and the product I purchased is a high-quality item, BUT, something must have gone wrong in my interpretation of the write-up on these hex adapters (or the write-up is wrong/uninformative).

The problem is: I’m running Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0/3.0 chassis with 5mm wheel studs, but these hex adapters will not fit on the wheel studs because the bore is too small. I guess I’ll drill them out to fit.

Here’s the other problem that EVERY HIGH-PERFORMANCE ALUMINUM HEX ADAPTER MANUFACTURER HAS: hex adaptors tighten down on the steel pin going through the wheel axle, and there’s a groove cut into the adapter for the pin to seat inside.

No matter if there’s a locking screw on the adapter or not (and most every adapter has a lock screw), due to the wheel being tightened down on the wheel stud, the adapter groove is pushed solid against the pin, and the groove is cut so deep, when the wheel is tightened down, the hex adapter gets smashed into the outer bearing of the wheel, and the wheel locks in place.

The first time I discovered this flaw, I had a really nice set of ceramic bearings installed on the wheels, and it destroyed the bearings. Ball bearings are designed to take a load on their spinning axis, and tightening the hex adapter on the opposing axis wiped them out - they went CRUNCH when the wheel was spinning, and they lost the ability to spin freely.

So, my only option is to either grind or mill the backside of aluminum hex adapters down until the groove for the pin is about half as deep as they make it, and that the adapter doesn’t push against the bearings.

Fun.

Peace!
