Already had the original TRX-4 Sport RTR crawler; but, wanted to build the kit for the experience. Excellent choice on my part because the build was very enjoyable and I learned a lot about the TRX-4 drivetrain. Traxxas did an excellent job of packaging the unassembled parts in bags and accompanied it with a flawless assembly manual that took me step-by-step through the build. And the supplied clear truck body with all its detailed attachments is so pretty for being a lightweight shell (which I prefer over the hard shell bodies). I could not be happier. Now, back to the AMain website to select a few options...LOL
I put the Hobbywing 1080 brushed ESC and Traxxas 21T 550 motor on this kit for a budget build and couldn’t be happier! If you want more speed, you’ll have to go brushless. For crawling, it’s perfect. Bought an extra kit for for a 12 year old and he put it together with minimal supervision.
I didn’t buy this kit from here. I was going to but when I went to purchase it was out of stock so I found it at Rcsuperstore. This kit is very good quality and very durable! This was my second time building a crawler kit. First one was the Vattera ascender. Took me about 3.5 hours to build. 2 hours faster than it took to build the vaterra. Seems to be much better quality than the Vaterra. Great kit and turned out awesome! Big time traxxas customer and I highly recommend this kit! Oh yea the realistic headlight/taillights look really good! I ordered the headlight light kit that has working turn Signals and brake lights
Unbelievable quality and performance. First crawler kit (came from U4/sct/rock racing)and I am extremely satisfied. If you are familiar with building a Tekno kit you know the instructions are the best in the RC world. The instructions included in this kit are on par. There is an abundant supply of aftermarket parts available to really make it your own. The body/rack/scale accessory parts are much higher quality than I was expecting. Performance is undeniable. I purchased along side several upgrade parts(mainly drivline and some brass) and dropped in a complete Tekin electronics setup(RX4-ROC412HD 3100KV-t-360) with Futaba 3pv. Using the tekin hotwire I turned the speed all the way down and torque all the way up. Bumper mod is a must front and rear off the bat. More aggressive approach angle/look and can still use front and rear plastic parts without modification. Keep weight as low as possible and extend width by 4mm add good foams and tires(although stock are not bad) and it's a mountain goat. Climbs 60*+ angles without hesitation. Highly recommend. Like do it....if your debating at all, like I was, you will not be disappointed. Read the instructions carefully, everything you need to know is there, and you will not have any issues.
Love the kit...easy to build, great quality and easy to follow directions.
I ordered the TRX4 Sport kit, Hobbywing 1080esc and a Reddy motor as well as a few accessories for truck. Ordering was easy and delivery was fast and on time.
Thanks for making my first experience with amain a great on!
Will order again from amain again.
Very well put together kit. Instructions easy to read and navigate. Best builders aKit out there hands down.
AWESOME KIT!!
I wanted a 1/10 crawler so I looked around and ended up with this kit. It was my first kit so I wasn't sure what to expect but it went together great. No problems at all. I would definitely recommend this over the rtr because you get the choose your electronics and wheels.
If you're thinking about buying one definitely do it
The kit just arrived and everything about it looks great. The manual and the associated parts bags very well marked/labeled . My son and I plan to build this kit and make it our own. If your thinking of a kit to build, give this one some consideration. Well done Traxxas!!!
This is my third TRX4, second TRX4 Sport. I really like shopping Amain. Their site, search, image quality, customer service and communication is the best in the RC business IMHO. The TRX4s have so many aftermarket options, the sky is the limit from a configuration perspective. They are easy to work on and over engineered so tumbles don’t stop the fun. The two sports are Christmas presents, so I haven’t officially played with a sport. My daily crawler started out life as a 12.8 Defender TRX4. It’s been heavily modded at this point, but I expect good things from the Sports. Thank you and I can highly recommend Amain for any RC purchase. Merry Christmas and here’s to a better year than the one we are leaving behind.
Cheers
Vanquish level kit
Great instruction manual
easy to put together
no missing parts
great kit for anyone, from new in the hobby to 20 year r/c vets
This is my first kit that I've built. Before, I've just had RTR's and I thought this would be a good one to start with after reading other reviews. I'm not disappointed! The instructions were thorough and easy to follow. For the electronics, I used a Futaba R304SB-E T-FHSS 4-Channel Telemetry Receiver, Holmes Hobbies TrailMaster 21T brushed motor, Hobbywing QuicRun Waterproof 1080 Brushed Crawling ESC, and EcoPower WP120T Coreless Waterproof High Torque Metal Gear Digital Servo. I painted the body with Tamiya PS-17 Metallic Green, using TAMIYA PS-5 Black for accents. It turned out beautiful for my first painted body shell! My biggest hang up was gluing the tires, as I've never done that before. I ended up with too much glue all over the place, actually gluing two of the tires together (duh)! Lesson learned there.
I'll have to get some different wheels and tires now if I want it to be pristine but these will still work for now. As far as functioning as a rock crawler/trail truck this thing is a blast, doing anything my Element Gatekeeper can do, sometimes even better!
All the extra scale accessories made this truck look top-notch! I would recommend this kit to anybody, especially if you've never assembled an rc car from a kit before. I'm sure that experienced builders would enjoy tricking this truck out as well, since there's so many upgrades available. When ordering, I used the AMain Hobbies chat feature and the person chatting was very helpful in figuring out details for my first build. Shipping as usual was super-speedy, thanks AMain Hobbies!
This is an exceptional RC kit, with the best instruction manual I have used after building 9 RC kits. I use it as a trail truck with the stock Traxxas tires and it has taken a beating rock crawling and has not broken.
Super happy with this kit! Excellent instruction manual, super smooth quiet drivetrain, and everything came together nicely. Great kit!
I'm still in the middle of building the kit, but it's been so much fun building it! I hope traxxas have more kits. Thank you Amain for quickly sending the trx4 sport kit shrink wrapped and nice condition box. I didn't order from traxxas cause two cars I had shipped came in beat up boxes that where opened.
Great kit.
Already assembled it and finally today crawling it.
The Trx4 Sport is an awesome truck. I’ve always preferred kits instead of ready to run .the build is enjoyable to me. This was an easy build.
Its the best you can get.
Going to drop in the HW axe 2100kv system soon!
It has been way too long since I've built a remote control kit. I have built many Tamiya, Yokomo and Mugen Seiki kits. I've owned both electric and gas remote control vehicles.
I do not know much about Traxxas with the exception that many of their products are Ready To Run. I am not a fan of RTR, I rather build the kits (you learn more about your vehicle this way when something does go wrong)
I truly did enjoy putting this trail / crawler truck together. The instructions were easy to follow. A must buy if you are getting into the crawler hobby.
This was a great kit and a lot of fun to assemble. Even as our first crawler, my son and I were able to put this together in a few hours and be up and running. We really liked being able to choose our own electronics vs paying for stock and upgrading anyway. The body is nice and heavy and prepared for assembly/paint. I’d definitely suggest this to anyone thinking about getting in to the hobby or looking for an addition rig for their collection. Just beware of the wide breadth of aftermarket parts available and the spending spree that it can lead to even though you can run it as you built it.
So far, so good. Still building the truck but the quality so far is outstanding. The only problem I have encountered so far is that one of the bearings for the portal axles was the wrong size. However, a quick call to Amain Hobbies resulted in new bearings being shipped. I haven’t received it yet but have do doubt it is on the way.
