Found it a fun assembly and a good base to start adding all the optional upgraded HD parts. VERY easy to follow instructions and everything fit perfect and I had zero problems. Took around 5-6 hours total to assemble. It fits the Bronco body perfect and easy enough to modify to fit the Defender and Tactical bodies.
The real question would be, if I had it to do over would I do it again ? That would be a big yes.
I DID do my "homework" on this kit before I bought it. Watched a full build on U-Tube along with reading other reviews on the kit. The 24t output gear and the bearing DID fit on mine (although I purchase an extra gear just incase) and added it to my spare parts bin after not needing it. Also added the all metal gear upgrade kit to the transmission.
IF I was going to complain about anything, I would have liked Traxxas to have added an extra tube of HD grease for the gears. Didn't quite agree with just a dab on each gear. I used a compatible marine grease that was safe for plastic and has a wide temperature range from below zero to over 100 degree F.
Built it bashed it all stock for now but I must say it was fun to build except for one gear in the trans needed to be dremeled out for a bearing to fit in it other than that its a nice kit
Everything went together well directions are good
The shocks are great when built properly some of the smoothest ive ever had even over my prolines
I'm running a scx10.2 cherokee body and it fits perfectly
Id recommend this kit to intermediate builders as the directions can be confusing
Just finished building this kit . Awesome kit. The longest part is running the wires for all the servos. I would highly recommend this kit. I've put together a gmade kit and compared to this kit the trx-4 kit is better quality and easier. If you can use simple tools and read instructions, this kit is a great way to learn the hobby of building one yourself. If you use narrow inner fenders, other bodies will work of the same wheel base.
I didn't know that I would have to put it together, I thought it was a rtr chassis. But I will enjoy putting it together and looking at upgrading some of the parts as I do. Thank you for my order, I will be ordering from you again in the near future.
Very well built kit, all plastic components very sturdy. Kit went together well. Only downside is that it is very specific on what traxxas body you can use without doing what I did and spend a bunch of extra money on buying more parts just to make the sport body work. Only uses bronco or blazer body...
Have had most Traxxas cars and trucks love them all this is first kit from TRAXXAS and the build was simple had a good time building and before build bought all upgrades now its time to play PS only thing I don't like are the Traxxas plugs first is the plugs are not simple someone who can't solder good will have problems where the Dean(T) connecter does not need assembly just solder wire to terminal and go ..anybody who can't build this toy should not give a bad review it just means your not a builder a should only buy ready to run and leave building to the mechanics
Great kit. Arrived quickly. Engineered very well and everything fit flawlessly. Added quite a few aftermarket upgrades and had zero problems with those as well. Instruction manual is relatively clear. Difficult to find aftermarket bodies that will fit without modifications. Overall, very happy with the purchase.
This was so much fun to put together! The only problem I had was there was an incident at least three times where the screw that was required was not in the kit. Now I was able to buy some screws that worked but that just put everything on hold until I could go do that. Other than that great little kit and I’ve been having fun playing with it!
An outstanding kit! The hardest part in building it was the 2-speed transmission; after that it becomes much easier.
I would recommend you buy #8298 stainless screws. I used them instead of the standard screws, and the truck looks better; plus they won’t rust.
I also installed the SAMTRX4-4063-8 Samix hex adapters that extend the width along with the #8255A stub extenders.
For a body, I used the new 8213-GRAY High Trail Edition Sport Clipless body (comes with Expedition Rack), with the 8080x clipless fenders.
This truck is very capable. With some simple modifications and upgrades, it crawls amazingly. I would recommend replacing the servos. The main servo is not powerful enough to move the wheels under load, and I’ve already had the shift servo strip.
Looking forward to continuing to upgrade this truck and crawling with it!
Building this kit was so much fun that I wish I could build one every weekend! I love my other crawlers too but the TRX-4 is just such a good value for money.
I have the SCX10III,Cross Sg4c demon,and VS4-10 Ultra from amain. This kit is a great build and the fun factor is a 10 with me. I’m going to let my young nephews and niece use this while I use the other trucks. The traxxas will be my go to truck if I’m by myself. I did have to purchase a few extra parts,body,lights,winch,body mounts,front/rear bumpers,Lcg battery tray,wheels,tires,and fender inserts for a great looking kit. I love the two speed and diff lock option. The electrics included in this kit work fine for me. This kit was worth the time chasing down my finishing parts. I would buy again and recommend the traxxas kit to others.
Even though it is on back order I ordered it. Have not assembled a kit in months! First one I build and give away! Going to be pimped out and fun!
Been wanting one of these badly and after selling hotwheels on ebay i was finally able to pull the trigger, had such fun building it that im sad its over. I have put a few nimh charges through it and have since ordered a 3s lipo and charger! Couldn't have ordered from a better website, had my stuff out to me in no time flat! Cant recall a single gripe! Even talked my friend into getting the trx4 blazer from amain for her husband for christmas.

Great kit. Very disappointed in the amount of time it took to receive my order. Ended up buying the same item directly from traxxas. So now you have two.
Great truck, fun to build, and my first crawler.. You need to really pay attention to each step for orientation of parts, etc. Several times I had to disassemble and reassemble due to me missing a detail in a step, which can be frustrating at times. I had no issues with missing parts or non-fitting parts. I wanted to use the sport body, but also have the locking diffs and two speed trans, so I also purchased the sport shock towers and body mounts - about $25-30 for the parts. Really pleased with the way it turned out.
Built this last year. No problems with assembly or parts. Great kit with included items and just upgraded body from tactical to defender.
