Traxxas 134mm Unlimited Desert Racer Front Aluminum GTR Shocks (2)
Not an original idea of mine, but I purchased these shocks to use as a sort of bypass (unsprung) shock on the rear of my Baja Rey. I got the idea from Doubleclutchproductions on YouTube. The 134mm length of these shocks fits perfectly in the second hole eye to eye that all Baja Reys already have on the trailing arms and shock tower. I went on Losi's website and used their exploded view to find the part numbers for the screw and the nuts they use on the sprung shock, so for the hardware for to be able to put these on your Rey you'll need some of the #TLR5911 M3x20mm buttonhead screws and the #TLR6313 3x.5x5.5mm locknuts. The screws are the same size for the top and bottom of the shock so you'll only need the one size and some of those locknuts and your good to go! I put 15Wt oil in these shocks (just like DCP has) and I have the 30wt stock in the other four sprung shocks which seems to be working very well. These additional shocks on the rear of the Rey give it a lot more additional damping. The truck will nose dive a lot less on jumps or abrupt lips and overall the rear end stays much more composed instead of getting thrown up in the air. Even with the added damping in the back it is just enough but not too much to hinder it's "scale" performance, like on whoops and gnarly fast terrain, which is what I want this truck to be good at. If you get these I strongly recommend using 15wt oil. Even though that sounds very very light the volume of oil that these shocks hold is a far greater amount than the stock shocks (bigger bore) and you are essentially adding the 30 + 15 wt of shock oil in the rear. Even with just the 15wt I noticed the rear stock spring was being much more controlled. I had to crank on the preload a bit more but I am very happy with how they are working on the truck so far. Okay but whoever at traxxas put the seal caps on my shocks that screw onto the bottom of the shock body should be fired lol... my seal caps were so gosh dang tight when I was going to rebuild the shock (since they come bone dry) that I had to get a rag and some huge pliers to get those caps off, it was ridiculous, those things only need to be hand tight.
