Thames & Kosmos Robotics Smart Machines Sidekick. This addition to the Robotics Smart Machines series allows you to build and program a versatile robotic companion. This kit introduces kids to robotics, a field that blends physics, engineering, and computer science, in a simple and fun way. You can create either a four-wheeled rover or a two-wheeled robot Sidekick and switch between modes whenever you like. Once assembled, you can program your Sidekick's movements using the built-in keypad or the free Sidekick app (available for Android and iOS). The app unlocks additional features, allowing you to control movements, sounds, and even facial expressions. You can drive the Sidekick via remote control or use your device as a gyroscope. The app includes a visual programming interface and a simulator for coding your Sidekick.

The Sidekick is equipped with a microcontroller that connects to LED lights, a speaker, two motors, a battery, and an infrared sensor for navigating the maze included with the kit. It can also play music and dance to various tunes! As you build the robot, you'll learn how each component contributes to its functionality. A full-color illustrated manual guides you through assembling both models and using the app, while teaching you about the history of robotics and real-world robots. The app requires a tablet or smartphone running iOS or Android, with compatibility and device requirements available in app stores.
