Tekno RC EB48 2.2 4WD Competition 1/8 Electric Buggy Kit
This is my fifth or so Tekno kit, and third EB48. If you’re a racer looking for a racer’s perspective, this isn’t that. I bash this, like I bash my xray and Kyosho 1/8 buggies, my MCD buggy, and a dozen others. Why bash a race buggy? You should try it, if you haven’t. Consider that 1/8 race buggies are the pinnacle of off-road RC, and that the EB48 (according to some) is perhaps the best 1/8 race buggy. It is fast, forgiving, incredibly durable, easy to build, and easy to maintain. I don’t know what racers imagine bashers are looking for in a toy car (I was recently scolded by none other than Tekno customer support for bashing this), so I’ll just tell you: fast, forgiving, incredibly durable, easy to build, and easy to maintain. And this is that.

I run 2200 or 2250 kv motors with SMC’s lightweight 4S, 5800mAh HCL-HCV hardcase packs. A servo of about 500 oz-in works well. I like Schumacher spiral (spike) tires, or AKA I-beams, or similar. In a pinch, badlands, but they’re heavy. I run tallish gearing with good fans so it screams but doesn’t overheat.

Tekno RC EB48 2.2 4WD Competition 1/8 Electric Buggy Kit
On par with Team Associated kits, but I had to purchase additional shims to remove slack on diff out drive cups, arm hinges, servo links, etc. Shock caps allowed oil to spil out from the relief hole on side of the cap. Stock setup looked really jacked to me, I changed the front wheels from positive camber to negative 2-3 deg, rear is sitting way low, moved up 1.5 mm. The finished buggy looks incredible, makes all the little difficulties worthwhile, and I hate to get it dirty! Makes me want to get another one. Edit: after running on a local dirt track for 4-5 packs, I managed to bend the rear shock shaft, noticed right hand shock screw backing out and significant wear on the front and rear of chassis plate, wear on front shock caps. Significant rubbing from top of the hubs inside all the wheels. You can blame most of these to hooligans in the club or just bad driving, but the buggy seems fragile and may not last a full racing season without a ton of parts. I ran same amount of track time with tlr buggy with same ‘hooligans’, same day, and no damage whatsoever and ran like a champ. Tekno was finicky on setup changes and showed different behavior on turns and straights.
