Tamiya Grasshopper - Legendary Chassis with Iconic Body

The Tamiya Grasshopper Off-Road Buggy Kit is an iconic model and was the "first kit" owned by many modern day enthusiasts. The Grasshopper first made its appearance in R/C stores in 1984 and was based on the single seat buggies seen tearing-up dirt tracks across the U.S. in the 80's. Easy to assemble and easy to drive, the lightweight Grasshopper was an instant hit. Packed with all the fantastic features found on the original kit, this fun 2WD buggy is a blast on both off-road and on-road tracks.

About The Grasshopper

ABS Hard Body

The ABS body comes in unpainted white and is ready to receive your own paint job and selected decals. The body also allows for depictions of a roll cage and large light pods. Experienced hobby enthusiasts will love the attention to detail added around driver figure while entry level enthusiasts will love the ease of assembly.

Performance Drivetrain

The perfect combination of simple assembly and tough exterior is what made the Grasshopper so special. The durable plastic body is fastened to a bathtub resin monocoque chassis by screws, creating a solid frame that can absorb any type of rough handling. Off-road tracks can be tackled with ease thanks to coil spring dampers, and independent swing axle front and rigid axle rear suspension. A sealed gearbox keeps the dirt and stones out of the differential and gears for smooth driving and cornering. Paddle style rear tires and grooved front tires combined with 3-piece assembly type wheels provide excellent grip on dirt tracks.

Included Electronics

This kit includes a potent Hobbywing 1060 Brushed ESC and a 380-size brushed motor. The compact ESC boasts extreme performance, complemented by a built-in capacitor module for efficient power delivery. With exceptional current endurance capability, easily configurable parameters using ESC jumpers, and automatic throttle range calibration for user-friendly setup, the Quicrun 1060 stands out. Its impressive built-in BEC output capacity, built-in capacitor, and IP-67 waterproof rating further elevate its reliability, making it a top-tier choice for enthusiasts seeking optimal performance in their RC adventures.

Tamiya Grasshopper 1/10 Off-Road 2WD Buggy Kit
Been wanting to build a Tamiya Grasshopper since the 80’s. Overall went well. Replaced speed control, motor, spur gear and pinion for brushless. Waiting on tamiya pinion order with steering connectors from manufacturer. These are expected. Very pleased with build! Looking to the frog next!

Tamiya Grasshopper 1/10 Off-Road 2WD Buggy Kit
This is the best beginner buggy ever. After you build it, especially with bearings, you'll definitely keep it-even if you buy more kits. It's just a blast to bash around the dirt with it. Some people like to put oil shocks on them-but it doesn't really change the performance a whole lot. The Grasshopper 2 is made for shock upgrades. The stock 380 motor is good for a kid for his first build and to get used to driving a buggy-but moving up to a stock 540 silver can is the best overall motor for this thing. Anything more powerful is just overkill in my opinion. And I've tried a Sport Tuned 540-it just makes the thing spin donuts all the time-but, hey, if that's your thing, have at it!!! This buggy will get you hooked on R/C, that's for sure.

Tamiya Grasshopper 1/10 Off-Road 2WD Buggy Kit
I purchased my first Grasshopper in 2018. It's more of a shelf queen. My brother-in-law gave me his but the suspension was modified, it had the plastic bushings, and didn't have the Grasshopper tires on it . It was difficult to replace the OEM parts because they weren't available or the manual didn't correspond with Amain Hobbies or Tamiya's parts listing so I purchased another one. I installed a brushless system (Hobbywing EZ Run 3300kv combo) in it. It's fast! It'll be an attraction vehicle (run it once in awhile to show off old school buggy with modern electronics and battery) and maybe try it at the outdoor track. Just to make sure things ran smoothly, I purchased Fast Eddy's bearing kit for it.
