Seriously Low Profile

The Tamiya TC-01 Formula E Gen2 Car Championship Livery Chassis Kit celebrates the GEN2 car seen in the 2018 Formula E championship. The sleek, high-tech body with arch covered wheels is recreated in polycarbonate. Halo, mirrors and rear diffuser/bumper are molded ABS components. Markings are included to recreate the Championship Livery car, and the model is based upon the shaft-driven 4WD TC-01 chassis.

This durable composite monocoque-frame chassis provides shaft driven 4WD from a central motor via front and rear propeller shafts, with oil filled gear differentials. 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension employs long arms, plus inboard setups front and rear with oil shock-dampers actuated by push rods and rocker arms to allow the use of low-profile bodies. Adjust spacer width to easily alter camber, skid and toe angle settings. Both suspension arms and uprights are identical left, right, front and rear, for more efficient maintenance and pit work.

Tamiya Formula E Gen2 TC-01 1/10 4WD Electric Chassis Kit (Championship Livery)
Super fun build! I did upgrade to 2mm hexes, from the Phillips head screws. Well designed and a blast to assemble.
Model is very quiet when running; I used a 10t hobbywing brushless sensored system on 2s and was pleasantly surprised.

Tamiya Formula E Gen2 TC-01 1/10 4WD Electric Chassis Kit (Championship Livery)
It's a very fun car to drive once you get the car setup dialed in. It's a very heavy car at about 1490grams fully built, but it's mostly great at TCS where all your opponents have the same kit car with any tamiya hop up allowed. Saying that, this car is not a great choice if you plan on running it competitively against other races such as other touring cars made from carbon fiber on the high end, you would not be able to keep up due to the weight penalty

Tamiya Formula E Gen2 TC-01 1/10 4WD Electric Chassis Kit (Championship Livery)
One of Tamiya's more involved on-road kit builds. Not overly complicated or complex, but some parts can be fiddly to get installed.

Chassis Building Tips:
(1) As any good builder knows, only open the bags that correspond to the step you are on, and you will have less confusion because some shims, spacers, and other parts are very similar.
(2) Pay particular attention to the chassis front/back orientation, as it flips in some steps.
(3) I recommend applying some shoe goo to help hold the blind nuts into place in step 17; otherwise, you will be chasing them around on the building table/floor.
(4) TIGHT fit for electronics - you need a LOW Profile Servo and a compact ESC. Install these in steps 9-10. Do Not skip ahead, as retrofitting will require disassembling.
(5) Have any hop-up parts at the onset of the build except for dampers or rocker arms; these are easy to remove and replace after the fact.
(6) Using a power tool will fight wrist fatigue.

Body Building:
The Body is by far the most daunting task - a new hobby knife/scribe, Lexan scissors, and a body reamer are convenient tools to cut the body parts. Some inside cuts are required, and a reamer helps with opening an access hole for starting a cutting point.

Use good quality masking tape and not that old tired tape you have lying around. I recommend Tamiya Masking tape.

Overall: A fun build for those not in a big rush; take your time and enjoy!
