Tamiya Ford Mustang GT4 Body Set (Clear)
I bought this body set to replace my previous Mustang GT4 body that came with my Tamiya USA 25th Anniversary TT-02.
Now the biggest difference between that one and this one is that it does NOT have pre-cut wheel arches. Interesting to note is that both require having body post holes drilled, which is to be expected on this body-only set but not on any included with a TT-02.
This body set paints up REALLY nice if you go box art, though I will say there are some difficulties.
Cutting the wheel arches should be done with a pair of curved scissors as the “score, bend and snap” technique can cause some stretch tears if you’re not careful, especially on the rear where the rear bumper extensions are on either side.
Painting will require quite A LOT of masking and I’d personally recommend Tamiya’s drop cloth tape. Although it can be tricky to use (and frankly the tape they use with it is horrible), it makes painting the front splitter and rear extensions very easy and saves A LOT of time and masking tape.
DO NOT use any sort of CA glue to hold the lexan light buckets in place or it’ll ruin your paint and eventually come loose. Use Shoe Goo or 3M automotive trim tape for the best hold.
Decaling was very easy, save for the light surrounds which are among the most fiddly of them all and tear very easily. Curved tweezers and a cuticle scissors work best for them.
All in all, it’s a beautiful body when it’s done. Wish I could show a picture because DAMN does it look great when it’s done!
