Model Kit Overview:
Tamiya 1/350 Japanese Heavy Cruiser Chikuma Plastic Model Kit. This model kit provides a detailed scale replica of the Chikuma, the final heavy cruiser built by the Japanese Navy. Completed in May 1939, the Chikuma was a Tone-class ship noted for its unique design which featured all four twin 20.3cm main gun turrets positioned forward of the bridge. This arrangement allowed for the unimpeded launch of six floatplanes from the aft deck, enhancing its reconnaissance capabilities. The Chikuma played a crucial role in several significant World War II engagements, including the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Midway, before being sunk in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944.
