This is the Serpent Spyder SRX-2 MM Mid-Motor 2WD Ready-To-Race 1/10 Scale Electric Buggy, with an included 2.4GHz Radio System. Designed by World Champion Billy Easton in the USA, the RTR Spyder buggy is based on the high end competition version of the Spyder MM buggy. To keep parts compatibility simple, both buggies share most components and suspension geometry, while also sharing optional upgrades that can be equipped to the vehicle later.
Pre-Painted Body and Rear Wing
The prepainted and pre-cut light and low cab-forward style body is made from top quality clear polycarbonate material and features a nice flowing line with a steep front windscreen for high performance downforce. The shark fin on the roof of the cabin not only offers style and great looks, but also stability for high-speed travel. The polycarbonate rear wing utilizes raised chutes in the sides to improve wheel clearance. Additionally, the rear wing mount is adjustable from 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 degrees to further fine tune downforce adjustment.
Brushless Motor and Electronic Speed Controller
The DragonRC DX-10WP ESC provides 45A current while being compatible with either 2S LiPo, 3S LiPo and 6-cell NiMH batteries. It is also waterproof and can be programmed easily with the optional program card (sold separately). The 9-T Sensorless motor is a 9 Turn modified motor offering 3000kV of high power and excitement. The entire motor is built on a full aluminum, maintenance-free can, for hours of fun.

My issues since bought:
Gear diff housing gear stripped on me my first run on it( ordered aluminum, no issues)
Turn buckles kept popping off (switched out ball caps with the B5M ones, no issues now)
Extremely slow servo
You cant expect everything top of the line for the price point. Besides those few minor things, which you can read about in reviews all over the web, it is a solid, strong buggy, with a good radio. If your good with having to order most, if not all your parts online you will love it!
I believe this is a 5 star buggy, no doubt about it, you cant expect everything perfect in the RC world
Pros:
easy to drive
Decent radio
Nice painted body
Geared for good acceleration and quite agile
Great handling off-road for a 2wd, turns great and responds great
Good drivetrain and ball shafts
Suspension actually works well for a car so light
Compact and tough but not a basher
Sleek, stylish, looks good
Strong steering
Amazing battery life with a good battery. I run a Protek 120c 4900mah 7.6 Lipo, I drove this car for a good hour or so and it still was driving when I packed it in. Seriously amazed at how much driving one Small lipo can give.
Cons:
The worst issue is the 2mm front hex’s that only allow 2mm deep hex rim holes or else the rim it’s the hub and the wheel will not rotate. I had to trim my front wheels hex down (aftermarket) on a lathe from 6mm deep to 2mm. The factory front axle hex’s are super super thin. Standard thicker hex’s should be available to purchase or come stock to accommodate wheel changes. Road wheels are a must, this buggy really tears apart the stock soft tires on asphalt.
Ball end caps can pop off when you roll but do push back on and stay on, however, these are known to come off due to how they operate.
Doscriptiom says 2s lipo or 6 cell NiMh. It’s a shorty lipo 96mm or less, nothing else fits. This was unclear in the discription.
Body pushes down hard on lipo battery wires, car must use a low profile cable to stop this.
Could go a little bit faster top speed, say a 3500kv over the 3000.
Overall I love this buggy and for $260 what I mentioned above can easily be fixed for cheap. It’s worth every penny but customization is limited. Construction seems pretty good and solid but the suspension feels a bit uneven. My front right wheel lifts off slightly before my right, it’s likely a shock shaft length. My rear left hub bearings seized day 1 but after some oil they’re fine.
It’s worth the money.
Long Answer:
From what I heard, saw and read, this buggy seemed pretty legit. Then once it came, I got super excited; opened up the box and was immediately met with a really crappy RC transmitter. Well okay, I thought-this IS an RTR. Then I pulled the trigger after installing my Reedy Wolfpack 3S LiPo 3000 mah battery(the tray will fit that exact battery length-wise and height-wise with about
2 cm of space to one side). Holy cow! at full throttle, it flies like a bat out of hell!! haha.
I will say though, that the low-end throttle response is lacking immensely. The best way I can describe this, is this: imagine stepping very lightly on the gas pedal in your car and instead of it slowly creeping forward, it lurches forward going 10 mph. That's what it feels like, probably because of the 3S battery in it. My Traxxas slash never had that problem on a 2S Lipo (with stock brushed esc and motor) or my Turnigy 1/16 mini rally car on a 3S Lipo. Just something to be aware of.
This buggy turns really tight too, up to 46-7 degrees either way, so it would be helpful to have a computer radio (like a Spektrum DX5C or Futaba 3PV) to adjust travel, expo, and D/R (dual rates). This buggy's stock brushless components can take intermittent full throttle/medium throttle for a full 40 minutes without getting hot, but it will be fairly warm to the touch. When you throttle up slowly, it cogs a lot. Which isn't a huge concern as I've been running it over the past week, but it's definitely something to keep in mind.
Also, the rear tires have slight toe-in which may wear patterns in your tires. But I noticed when I went full-throttle, it tracked straight even with wind pushing it around. It fish-tails pretty bad going backward though, which explains how the toe-in keeps it so straight going forward. I have never had a buggy before, (or any RC car with toe-in on the rear tires) but I can imagine that toe-in is there for a reason.
Overall a fantastic buggy with plenty of upgrades as things break : )

As a first serious 1/10 2WD buggy, definitely a good starting place. Repairs are easy. I use it mostly at a track but also fun for bashing if that's your thing.
I love the brand so much I have now bought the new Serpent SRX2 Hybrid.
. However this buggy was shipped with zip ties over A arms and then fastened down inside box with tires sqeezed. When the wheels spin they are totally out of round now. I tried to squeeze back into shape but they go right back out of round again. So I will be buying new wheels to replace these ones unfortunately.
Cons: does not sat it is a dirt buggy in the description. Radio is junk. Parts availability in my area. No slipper gear for carpet track.
Overall I am pretty happy with this buggy. For the price I did not expect it to be as fast as my Son’s Team Associated 6.3 but it runs well. Out of the box requires a new radio, tires, and adjustments to be able to run on the carpet.
