Model Overview:
Amidst the fervor of the late 1960s muscle car phenomenon, there emerged a demand for more affordable yet potent models. Plymouth answered the call with the 1968 Road Runner, delivering raw muscle without the lavish extras associated with pricier performance vehicles. The Road Runner's minimalist approach kept costs down, appealing to budget-conscious buyers seeking pure performance. In 1970, the restyled Road Runner joined Plymouth's "Rapid Transit System" lineup of high-performance cars, boasting whimsical features like optional "dust trail" side stripes and a vibrant array of "High Impact" paint colors. The optional 440+6 engine, equipped with a trio of 2-barrel carbs, churned out an impressive 390 horsepower and a formidable 490 lb-ft of torque, propelling the Road Runner to quarter-mile times in the mid-13 second range at speeds exceeding 102 mph.
