Redcat Gen8 V2 International Scout II 1/10 4WD RTR Scale Rock Crawler w/2.4GHz Radio (Purple)

Caught a sale on one of these and I am very happy with my purchase. Keeps up with my modified trx4 pretty well for the price I paid.I went back to buy another one and the sale was over.
Very low gearing, portal axles, nice transmitter. Really nice body. Tested the water resistance and passed with flying colors. Tires could be a little more grippy but still work very well. Don’t hesitate to buy one.

Planned on spending up to $500, for my 1st crawler. After months of research, I was finally ready to purchase the Gen8 AXE edition, however it is sold out everywhere, and per my discussion with Redcat, it will not be reproduced. Love the look of TRX-4 Bronco in Sunset, but for $500 with the standard Traxxas electronics, I didn't want to spend that kind of money. Element was ok, but the Sendero and Ecto did not excite me. Axial SCXIII was too expensive. I really dig the International Scout II body, and thus I selected the Gen8 V2. The Gen8 V2 is impressive. I have taken it out into muddy trails, loose rock piles, a construction site, and general bashing, and it has performed very well. Many compliments on the look of it from the neighbors. I used the $200 budgetary savings in purchasing the Gen8 V2 to purchase an interior, Treal outer portal brass covers, OEM 16 LED light kit, Vanquish Wheels 1.9" and ProLine BFG Mud Terrains 4.19" Preditor. Very happy. Will be taking it out on muddy trails in a few days. Always run on 3s. Controller is Flysky made, and has impressive range. ESC is HW1040 private labeled. 25KG servo has worked fine.

I have the Gen 8 original version with orange body; however, after I broke two axles, Redcat was awesome and sent me the entire upgrade kit with all the components for the V2 portals. . Believe it nor not, broke even that rear axle!! So, upgraded to Treal aluminum *everything* for my portals, hubs, etc. Never broke a portal part since! Problem. Solved!

Only other broken part I suffered was the front shock towers. Upgraded those to redcat aluminum and have since had zero part failures. RTR wheels are ok... just need broken in to get maximum grip. Fresh from factory they are slippery.

In retrospect, with the stock redcat brushed motor, the V2 upgrades would’ve been sufficient. I’m almost certain it was the castle Slate 3800kv with mamba x esc running 3s that shredded the plastic stuff! Lessons learned.

Only other mod was a reefs 422 HD ver 2 steering servo.

Overall this is an outstanding value and excellent entry into rock crawling and with the right upgrades, it is I’d say a mid-level crawler. Also good for trail running. Is not a basher though!

Very nice detail body, looks amazing and has a very scale look. Tires and Foams aren’t the best, but do manage to crawl fairly well, but on every RTR tires and foams are usually changed anyways for optimal performance. Servo has decent torque and doesn’t show signs of weakness on the Crawls. ESC does fairly well and performs superb with three different Turnable settings, drag break works great. Radio is the weakness, doesn’t have good feel with driver and esc. I swapped radios right away with Traxxas radio with link module for multiple adjustments, this made a huge difference in feel and how I can control speeds at Minimal throttle. Overall for the money is the best bang for buck. Compared to my TRX4 Sport kit, it performs very well and looks amazing on the trails.

My wife and I both bought Gen8s, she got the purple and I got the green. We have already had them on wooded trail runs, creek runs and a great rock/sand/hill climb run in an old silica quarry. The updates Redcat made to the version two of the Gen 8 are fantastic. They listened to their customers and fixed all the concerns and complaints. Double shear points, smooth skid plate, and a host of other improvements. The improved paint with clear windows is also a huge win. These have got to be the best bang for the buck rigs and can easily keep up with the much more expensive competition!

This really has nothing to do with AMain. They were amazing. Above and beyond my expectations. The truck however... Therefore Redcat Racing. Is a bit of a different story. This truck was a gift for my little nephew's birthday. We've both been wanting to get into the RC hobby for a while now. I finally got a little money saved up and wanted to surprise him with his, and by extension, my first hobby grade RC. He's had it for 2 weeks now... When he opened it. We took the diffs and portals apart, the diffs had some grease, the portals had basically none. I kind of expected that though from all the videos I've seen on them. Hence why we took them apart in the first place. Most of the screws were pretty tight, 1 was stripped, 2 were loose. The wheels had 3 screws that were stripped, 2 or 3 others where the points those screws go into to hold the metal beadlock on were cracked in half. The truck body had scratches all over the place. The plastic was peeled off the whole thing except the roof top. There was dust and dirt all stuck to the plastic. It honestly looked like Redcat was running low on bodies and they found this one laying on the floor of the storage warehouse in some back corner for months and just threw it on my particular car when it was packaged. Lol. I wasn't super worried about that tho because I knew it was going to be bashed so it was going to get scratched anyways. And it has. The velcro is a huge mistake. They shoulda went with magnets from the get go. Ours are coming today and getting put on. The steering won't go lock to lock without jamming into the diff cover which kinda sucks. I'm looking into a replacement, along with replacement tires for the metal wheels I got to replace the cracked and stripped plastics ones because the stock tires won't fit them... I might just bend the steering link but idk... Might weaken it. I'm kinda disappointed that it no longer comes with the spare wheel. Aesthetically, I kinda like having one on the back. I guess once I get the wheels and tires replaced tho I can use one of the stock ones and mount it. It at least includes the mount. The light kit is kind of a pain in the butt to install. Just saying. Lol. Overall tho. My nephew is happy so I am too. I'd still definitely recommend AMain for your hobby needs. Especially if you're like me and don't have a hobby shop near by. Just keep in mind that if you get a Redcat Gen 8 V2. It might not have the BESTEST of quality control...

The entire process was so smooth that I ordered the Gen 8 axe Edition for myself the only negative thing I can say is that you have to purchase the light kit separate and of course it is on backorder however all-in-all a 5-star experience!!!?

The Gen8 V2 Scout crawler is an absolute BEAST of a truck! I was completely satisfied with its crawling abilities 1st off using only a 2s lipo battery. BUT, i decided to go ahead an order a 3s lipo pack just to see how much better it could actually run, being that the 2s power/torque delivery was basically unstoppable already. All i can say about the 3s boost is "WOW"! Top speed went from 8mph to 11-12mph, and bottom-end torque is INSANE. With full traction terrain(grass/carpet/pavement) it can stand the front-end straight up for atleast 10ft, and punch it in reverse, it will indo the truck onto its roof. WIN 4 REDCAT, NO DOUBT!!

Hello, I have received this beautiful Crawler Redcat Gen8 V2 ordered in the USA and not found in France. Protective boxes in excellent condition and delivery time of 18 days. Not yet tried this crawler outside but already very happy to own a copy because it is very requested.Thank you.

This thing is a beast, I love it. Pretty good for being stock.

I really like this Scout just the way it is. The real Scouts were a classy truck and so is this model.

As of this writing the truck has 5-6 hours of runtime.

I deducted 2 stars on this review because one shock was leaking and the other 3 didn't have ANY oil in them (out of the box) along with 3 wheels developed spider cracks that ran from the center of the rims and ran outward. I talked to Tech Support and it sounded like I got the new guy.

Overall (along with every other RC truck) you will need to go over EVERY screw for tightness, check the shocks and basically fix everything that Redcat just "threw in the box". I would rate their build as BELOW AVERAGE. So in total there was 4 hours of labor that needed to be done to keep the truck running plus the added expense of replacing the wheels.

I'm giving it a 4 star because when I received my package the front bumper was broken which Amain replaced and the body had light swirling scratched all over it, which no big deal. Other then that I'm very happy with my purchase and loving the gen8. Worth every penny

I love this rc, it's very capable out of the box. Has a good turning radius and climbs really well. The purple is an awesome color i really like it in the light. I run it on 2s and it goes everywhere. Also I purchased the light kit for it and it's awesome, easy to install, just time consuming. Would highly recommend this rc to anyone. If your thinking about getting one just do it, you won't be disappointed, it's a head turner, people love the old scout body.

Great rc for the price. Havent tested fully offroad yet. Have only ran about an 1/8ths worth of a 3s lipo through it in my living room/house. Simple, powerful, lots of metal upgrades, portals, real beadlocks, swampers, adjustable shocks. The only things i dont like is when i compare to my trx and not having 2spd or un/lockable diffs. But conaidering the price difference, just learn to throttle control hardcore

I got the Purple, and I love it... Ok First this truck rolls don't worry about the most powerful battery buy a big roof rack.

Yes Big Roof Rack, this truck is pretty and you will hate that first scratch. The rack will make it roll more, be sure to add some spring force to compensate. Mines so big you can use it for a handle (Yes the Velcro has been that good so far, not recommended practice)

But why do I love it? I have more fun getting this in and out of hard areas relying on mechanical sympathy. I have one other 1/10 scale crawler and it is a Element Ecto. I love both trucks but they are different experiences all together. as soon as you buy this your will want to preform upgrades. Lost of math can you afford the good BRASS parts or should you go cheap BRASS parts and by a lot. I recommend stick with the rule "UPGRADE NOTHING UNTIL SOMETHING BREAKS". On Grape Apes initial voyage he took a full speed Rustler to the front drivers tire and this caused a need for immediate repair (Parts were like $5). I resisted the urge to upgrade... after following the Ecto and I am convinced. For trail crawling I did more Technical Crawling Step For Step than the Ecto Driver. I needed to be very aware of every move and plan to avoid the dreaded hip drop. I also prefer the Scale look and feel to the Scout 2 (not a fan of Jeep bodies) The way it moves just lets me get more into the drivers seat. My truck is now scratched to bits and has been into the mud and road hard. I will say I am good to my vehicles (Maintenance), and use the correct type of car for the correct use. I like too take it for walks around the property, however this may be because it is new. Thinking of adding FPV.

*** UPDATE Just Read All of the Reviews on AMAIN. I also purchased this based on price, I do not recommend premium upgrades to this truck. You will spend more than the truck costs. One Day I will swap the receiver so I can use my controller and may add a 1080 ESC, but until the servo burns its good enough. Think of it like camping: your roughing it, and if you have another crawler think how much more you will appreciate its finer points. Lastly so no one thinks I am a "Crank" get the light kit, and lets see how body heavy we can make them with Winches and other realism type accessories above the Hub line. HAVE FUN thats what its all about.***

Ordering was easy and the truck arrived quickly and in good shape. The Gen8 V2 is awesome and I am very happy with my purchase and with Amain Hobbies.

This beast is a blast to run! The controller is very basic, but does the job.

Great Trail Truck can't say I've tried crawling in yet. More than capable stock but top heavy likes to roll.

This is the best crawler ever. Very similar to the Traxxas TRX 4, but is still very unique. It uses some of the upgrades and accessories that the TRX 4 uses. I highly recommend this crawler.
