This Servo is a beast, and really really fast!!!
Love it on my crawler. I will buy another for sure.
FYI for those purchasing this. 25T horn.
I’ve been using the 550 series Servos in every rc I have, from 1/8 to 1/10 in off-road, oval, crawling and drift cars. Super smooth and gobs of power. I’m not sponsored by them but would fully stand behind them! MKS with this servo has delivered the best bang for your buck. You won’t be disappointed.
Great servos, using them in a TLR 8ight-T 4.0 for both steering and throttle. No issues at all, centers every time. Very impressed with these servos!
Amazing servos! The specs speak for themselves: high-torque, high-speed, high-voltage, very high-quality construction, super quiet, affordable. They provide buttery smooth and fast movement with tons of power. After using these, I’ll be switching everything over as they are the new benchmark IMO.
I’d give this servo zero stars if I could for two reasons:
#1 - the spline is really short which causes many different types of servo horns to rub on the top face of the case scratching the nice anodizing. Tried Protek, Tekno and Tekin servo arms and all 3 rubbed on the aluminum. I had to clamp the arm on the spline before the arm is fully tightened down with the center screw so that it sat up high enough to not rub. But then you are only using 66% of the spline...I don’t like this
#2 - more importantly - this servo did not even make it out of the house before it failed and seized up. Installed it in my MT410 (adjusted servo arm height so it didn’t rub) and set the RX8 to 7.4v. Set EPA and then scaled back from that with D/R to ensure it did not hit the steering stops. Put the truck on the carpet and gave the servo about 20-25 full left-right back and forth swings to see if it would fade and on the last one it slowed down a bit. I picked the truck up, put it on the stand and gave it another quick left right and it got really slow and seized up. I’ve never had a servo just seize up like this. I didn’t open it up and break the “QC” seal ? to see what is going on...but I am really curious.
Will be sending back to AMain. Hopefully they give me credit towards a different servo.
On the plus side, it was fast and strong for the 5 minutes it was in the vehicle. Noisy and grainy compared to the Tekin T300 that I took out and put back in...but faster and stronger than the Tekin.
EDIT: instead of sending it back, I opened it up and found out what happened. Looks like one of the gears seized onto the pin which caused the lock up. Pulled it apart, cleaned the galled metal off the pin with 4000 grit in a drill, greased the heck out of it and rebuilt it. Works 100%! The servo horn height is still and issue, but at least I figured out what the issue was.
I saw these and did a double take at the price ! Had to have them. I put them in my new Synergy 696 on cyclic loved everything about them but they're a bit noisy. They worked great. I have a set of BK Kyle Stacy edition 7003 which the stars that were much faster then the 550s so I took the 550s out and put the BKs in. Needless to say one flight later the 550s were back in my 696. I really see the difference! My 696 is more crisp and pitch changing is fast and strong! It flew better with the 550s I cant believe it ! Get a set you wont be disappointed!!
Replaced my stock servo in my Traxxas Slash 4x4 and it's night and day. The build quality is excellent, looks great, and handles phenomenal a must upgrade.
Unbelievable amount of torque and speed for around $100. I usually use savox or futaba, but if this servo can handle my abusive driving I'll definitely be buying more.
Excellent Servo and price is fantastic. Your getting a high quality servo for your money. For Racing Buggies and Cars you don't want to run anything that is not of high quality. I highly recommend using these in your Racing Buggies and Cars.
Works Amazing! I run it as a steering servo in my RC8B3.1e and it is smooth and responsive. Best 1/8 Servo I've ever ran!
I’m running a pair of these in my serpent 1/8 nitro buggy and they work great. Plenty of torque and speed and have had zero issues with them after several race days.
What a great servo! Put two in nitro buggy, quality control, great return to center and accurate. Very pleased with this servo
Good while it lasted, but not much better performance than my cheap chinese Flash hobby 45kg brushless servo. Died just past its 1 year warranty after about 3 gallons usage as a 1/8 steering servo. Not impressed. End points set correctly, servo saver working fine, not many crashes. Gears are still tight. Reached out to MKS about maybe extending my warranty a bit and they didn't even reply to my email. Avoid this brand, buy something with a long history of quality like Savox, Hitec, Futaba etc. None of these reviews look to be after long term usage...
Strong and fast, look cool. Kinda loud electrical feedback kind of noises coming from it. This is my second one on 2 different rigs and there both the same. If electrical twitching noises don’t bother u then buy this, otherwise grab - Reefs or something else.
I finally found a servo, super fast high torque and all aluminum case I am loving it. Will be getting some more of these using as E-buggy and E truggy. will buy again if working after months of driving Update to this review This has become my go to servo when I need the best on a budget. The best servo I have ever had for the Price by Far!
I am pleased with this servo so far but have only had it a couple weeks I bouhgt it to replace another servo the protec 100ss that had an issue from the start and when I tried to get it replaced the process was a joke wanting me to send a video to them to show what it was doing so I bought this instead of getting another protec and I run a 6.6 LIFE battery on a associated rc8T 3.2 and with the badlands it still will move very fast and has plenty of torque even when sitting still if it holds up it will be a great servo I will update in a few months
I have a set of these on the cyclic for my SAB Kraken 580 nitro and Glogo 690 (nitro) helis and I absolutely love them!!! My flying style is moderate 3D but I've been leaning to a more aggressive style over the last year (been in the hobby for over 10 years). These servos don't skip a beat regardless of what I through at them (tic tocs, piro flips, piro tic tocs, funnels, etc). The abundant speed and torque makes executing maneuvers very predictable and sickly smooth. I've also crashed them (on both models due to a BEC issues) and have not had to replace anything. I'm flying unregulated now. HAHA. The price point in great too. If the geometry is set up properly these servos are very quite. I don't know my model is powered on unless I give radio input. These servos take a 25T horn which makes it easy for me because that's all I have. I've been using them for several months now and each flight is just as nice as the last. I'm buying these from now on for any application that requires standard size servos. My only complaint is related to the bolt that hold the servo horn. The servos come with bolts that require a 1.5mm hex driver. I would have preferred a 2.0mm or 2.5mm. However, the 1.5mm is holding well so far. You can't go wrong with these servos. And no, I'm not getting paid to do this review. I just really love these servos and wished I found them earlier.
I absolutely love MKS servos and the 550 is top notch. I have them in my buggy and now my truggy and they are unbelievable. Very quick and responsive and tons of torque. Great purchase for the price and quality!!!
Excellent servo..... I'm running it in my element enduro and this thing is super strong and very smooth. I'll definitely be putting one of these servos in my next crawler project
Thought I would give this a try. Been a loyal Savox fan, but love that I get a metal case at the same price point as a plastic savox. Extremely fast, strong. Only 1 race day so far but extremely impressed.
