Maverick Scout RC 1/10 RTR 4WD Electric Rock Crawler
Fun and capable right out if the box! I bought this for my 8y/o and she loves it, her first words were “it’s kinda slow...” but she doesn’t care anymore, it will go practically anywhere. I would suggest a couple extra batteries and some stickier tires. *UPDATE* >>> It seems as though this truck gets better with time, It has more torque with a properly charged battery and and some larger body pins and washers stiffened the mounting up a bit. still 5 Stars from me. My kid is into racing now with a slash, so I think I'll enjoy this one for a while...

Maverick Scout RC 1/10 RTR 4WD Electric Rock Crawler
Picked this up on sale and am loving it. Pretty simple kit, but at the price, it's unbeatable. Note that it's essentially identical to the Redcat Everest 10, so that should put into perspective what the price typically is.

What I really like about it is the big, sticky tires (which don't appear to have foams, by the way), mounted on some very trick looking beadlocks. The receiver, speed control and radio are also more than decent, and alone are easily worth half the price of this whole RTR. The servo's OK too, but the motor is pretty slow - it was hard to find specs, but I've seen 14T, which seems impossible to me, as well as 55T, which feels more like it. I replaced it with a 27T to give the truck more scoot.

One thing to consider is that this thing leans like crazy, which is how it gets the big articulation. This does mean that the truck body is basically never upright, which makes it look pretty silly in motion as it drives leaning over one way or the other (and the body already looks silly standing still). So I put on bigger, stiffer shocks, along with a Pro-Line MT body, turning it into a semi-scale "lifted" pickup. Looks great, even if it no longer hugs the side of a hill!

I've built up previous trail trucks using the "big names," and honestly, they're all horribly overpriced for what you get. Plastic shocks, basic brushed motors, locked diffs, and solid axles should not cost $400, folks. The Maverick Scout may feature all of this, but at least it's not premium-priced like the competition!
