The Losi Lasernut U4 1/10 4WD Brushless RTR Rock Racer is a scale replica of the renown Lasernut Unlimited U4 FIS (Full Independent Suspension) rock race buggy. Starting with the Losi TEN platform as a base, the Lasernut model adds items rock racers demand such as aluminum shocks, sway bars and adjustable turnbuckles. Working together with BFGoodrich Tires, the Lasernut U4 has scaled down KM3 tires that have an aggressive tread pattern that is capable of tackling a wide variety of terrain - from dirt and sand to chunky rocks and slick slabs.

The Lasernut is currently the only complete Unlimited U4 FIS racer on the market featuring all the technological advances drivers demand including the Spektrum Smart 130A Brushless ESC and Spektrum 4-Pole 1900kv 550 motor providing greater efficiency improving run times with increased power. Of course, the ESC is waterproof, completely programmable and comes pre-wired with a high-current IC5 connector. Drivers stay in control with a DX3 transmitter, a Spektrum AVC receiver with steering priority, and an officially-licensed Lasernut race-inspired scale U4RC body/roll cage with two different graphics and color variations. The Losi Lasernut Rock Racer is the ultimate U4 racer with scale looks, insane speeds and performance.

Losi Lasernut U4 1/10 4WD Brushless RTR Rock Racer (Black)
This is exactly what you'd expect from Losi, not Team Losi, but Losi. Everything is "RTR" quality. It's a good rig to my experience but I've upgraded mine substantially to get it to a competition level.

If you're looking at this, expect broken drive shafts and sloppy steering, and potentially stripped hubs. With that said, once upgraded and replaced, this rig is a beast. It's so much fun to drive.

Losi Lasernut U4 1/10 4WD Brushless RTR Rock Racer (Black)
I'd wait for the V2 in hindsight. It drives great, awesome on trail. I'm literally going on the same trails as my crawler and having a blast. After 15 packs or so I broke a front axle going off a 3 ft ramp and landed awkwardly. So don't jump it. The huge tires and open wheel put way more strain on the axles compared to the other tenacity models. I blew the rear diff from trail running. I replaced the diff with losi TEN SCTE parts. Download the manual for the part numbers. I kept the stock ring and pinion for the gearing. I bought everything for all 3 diffs. I'll replace as I service them. The servo is very weak but works. I replaced it with a stock TRX4 servo I had. That works fine. So $150-$200 later the truck is ready. BTW, Losi support was excellent. For general use at the same price get the Arrma Typhon. Unless you really want to go in the woods, the Typhon is better in every way, even looks cool. So don't buy it and be surprised when you have the same issues.
Update: after replacing the diffs the rig has been rock solid under heavy use.

Edit: the rear diff went again after the SCTE 3.0 swap. It did last a very long time under heavy use. I bit the bullet and installed a vitavon rear diff case for $100. In the long run this is the least expensive solution.
BTW: I still really love this rig so that says something about the performance.

Losi Lasernut U4 1/10 4WD Brushless RTR Rock Racer (Black)
I was waiting for a high performance u4 truck for years and i'd have to say at the moment this is the best overall rig you can buy (2023). I have owned the rock rey, a yeti, and twin hammers) - I'll go over the positives first- It Looks very scale but has none of the drawbacks or compromises that having scale features can produce (loss of performance and barriers to working on the truck). Just flip the lid open and your in! If looking cool is worth something to you then you will be happy here.
how it drives- anyone familiar with driving a 1/8 scale buggy will feel at home with this rig, although the very tall soft tires make the truck a bit unstable at speeds. Having the ability to easily tune all 3 diffs makes this truck a true jack of all trades. You want more low speed crawling action- thicken the diffs up. you want more high speed - thin them out. find the balance for where you drive and you wont be disappointed. Although the tall tires hinder its overall stability at speed they give you great ride height and great grip for the slower rocky sections.
motor/esc/receiver- still running the stock 1900kv sensorless spektrum motor and esc. If you'r a veteran of RC you wont think the truck is exceedingly fast (even on 4s) however id say its perfectly fast for what the chassis can handle. 1900kv seems perfect for what its asked to do. The spektrum receiver did die after 1 year of use.
Maintenance- the body does a great job keeping debris out of the car and most things that get in there don't jam things up or get in the pinion/spur enclosure. big win. Again, if you are familiar with 1/8 buggys you will feel right at home. Nothing new here.

THE NEGATIVES- Battery tray size- the tray was too small and too high in the chassis so i removed it and fabricated my own flat tray with velcro straps so i can run pretty much any battery i want. there are aftermarket versions out there but if your crafty enough you can just make your own.
12mm hex- should have 17mm. period.
Reliability- this is the big one and the reason it gets 4/5 stars. I feel that for such a heavy, fast truck it is a bit under built. A lot of 1/10 scale parts on a 1/8 sized vehicle. If you'r putting it through its paces you will bend shock shafts, shock screws and driveshafts. The rear diff housing has a tiny bearing on the outdrive that loves to self destruct. The steering is also weak and the saver is very very loose out of the box. In fact the steering linkage broke 10 minutes in to its first 2s run! I was happy enough with the truck to invest in some high-end VITAVON upgrades to strengthen it up and that has fixed most of the issues. That being said, the truck still has issues with the diff ring gear/pinion getting wadded up. so basically, if your ok with dropping about $1000 on the truck and all the upgrades it needs to be reliable this thing is amazing and my go to basher. If U4 was a thing in the northeast id be dominating!!

Losi Lasernut U4 1/10 4WD Brushless RTR Rock Racer (Black)
Fantastic rock racer, lots of screws loose upon arrival, make sure to buy some nylon locking nuts for the tires or the right rear WILL come off, constantly. Wheel hubs are painfully shallow and it's only a matter of time before they're stripped. If you're looking for a basher, you should probably look elsewhere, but if you use this thing how it's meant to be used, over rocks and trails, it's unstoppable.

Losi Lasernut U4 1/10 4WD Brushless RTR Rock Racer (Black)
I ran two 4s 100c 5000mah packs through the Lasernut for the maiden voyage. It held up great, I was expecting to break a few things, but not this time out ( I guess the upgrades can wait until I do run out of luck) I ran it at the park, a lot of jumping, and flips from landing wrong (I was having fun).

Losi Lasernut U4 1/10 4WD Brushless RTR Rock Racer (Black)
This is an incredibly fast, fun car. Great speed and jumps. Look super cool too. The reason for 4 stars is one tire is so out of round it is useless. Used the spare tire to use it. I figured losing had a better quality control.
Buy it, you will not be disappointed!!

I bought this as a gift for my husband and he loves it!! He's been looking at YouTubes of the car for a few months so i was glad I could finally get it for him. And purchasing it from AMain was so easy. They always have what I want and prices are always good

Losi Lasernut U4 1/10 4WD Brushless RTR Rock Racer (Black)
I have run 10 4s packs through my lasernut thus far. I have seen a lot of people complain about stripped wheels, diffs, and weak a-arms. I have yet to have any of those issues, and I have run this car very hard. I think a lot of those issues are caused by user error. As usual, losi has the suspension dialed right out of the box. I will say that the motor does get pretty hot during a long run. A heat sink would definitely help with that issue.

Losi Lasernut U4 1/10 4WD Brushless RTR Rock Racer (Black)
Worst RC I've owned, and i own 16 RC vehicles. Nothing about this is reliable, from steering, to the drivetrain, to the electronics, it is all a 3 minute boogie until failure. Steer clear of this POS! I've upgraded and upgraded and every single thing on this just falls apart. Complete trash. The longest run time I've had, and I only run on 2s and 3s, is about 13 minutes before something falls apart or breaks. It's fun for s few minutes but that's about it. Run, far far away from this POS!
