I am in no way a tech / computer guy.
I got it set up really easy & fast.
Linked it up with my phone and was racing with my friends and family.
So much cheaper than the competition timing system. And at 37 bucks a transponder makes this set up even better.
I've been able to dial my cars in for faster laps, by making adjustments and seeing the lap times get better.
Needless to say I'm impressed with this system.
I can't possibly recommend this enough.
* it announces and stores every lap of your "race" (practice session) and gives you the fastest 5 average and some other stats.
* You can give each racer a name and it uses that name to announce each lap time.
* if you give it a time for your race it tells you how much time is remaining when it announces your lap time. Super handy if you like to run a set amount of time.
* The car mounts for the $36ish transponder hold it up to point thru the window. Sort of hacky but it works. I changed to put a little window in the body and velcro it lower in the body.
* It depends on an IR transmitter so needs line of sight from the transponder to the lap monitor.
* You generally have to put the receiver (the Lap Monitor) on the inside of the track on the Driver's stand straight. If you put it on the outside of the track it can sense the IR from two lanes over. If you put it too far away the bluetooth probably won't connect.
* I am impressed with the distance the BT connects. Seemed like about 25 ft from the driver's stand to where I had it and it worked well.
* Had it positioned at the end of a straight where we are going near max speed. Still works every lap.
* The app allows you to remove or ignore certain laps. Super handy.
* Nothing to do with the app but you will definitely need to use a bluetooth speaker to hear the announcement. My iPhone just isn't loud enough once there are a few cars on the track.
Overall a pretty cool device.
One con: I wish it had tripod mount thread directly in the device instead of needing a flimsy spring loaded mount. Pretty minor annoyance.
