HPI Savage XL Octane 1/8 4WD Gas Monster Truck w/2.4GHz Radio & 15cc Gaso
Sorry to say I didn't buy this from AMain, I wish I would have. It seems like they've fixed most of the original issues. I've had this truck for 1 week now. It fired up in 6 pulls from bone dry and brand new. This was straight out of the box. All I did was check the needles to make sure they were at factory settings, and they were. I broke it in like the videos on HPI's site suggested... 1 tank driving it slow and easy. Easily wheelies on pavement halfway through second tank. This truck is a ton of fun.

However, the steering servo is somewhat underpowered; the electronics box is messy and a bit undersized. If you want to use your own rx, getting everything to fit is like putting a jigsaw puzzle together; The radio that came with this car is decent for an RTR, but does not have very good range. I would recommend using a more reliable radio. I took one star off because none of these are deal breakers for me. The truck itself is very fun and solid. I haven't broken anything yet. If I had it to do over again, I'd buy it again for sure.

I replaced the rx after break in because of range issues. Everything else is stock. Needles are still at factory settings, for now. Using 92 octane withe Royal Purple 2 cycle Synthetic mixed at 25:1.

HPI Savage XL Octane 1/8 4WD Gas Monster Truck w/2.4GHz Radio & 15cc Gaso
I have had this truck for a little while now. I have put about 12 tanks through it. Yes when you first get it you will have to be patient with it and i recommend just changing the spark plug after the first tank. It seems the spark plugs likes to foul out after the first tank or so. It will take 5 tanks or more before it starts to shift properly, like i said be patient with it and it will be worth it. I love this truck and it is my favorite in my collection...

HPI Savage XL Octane 1/8 4WD Gas Monster Truck w/2.4GHz Radio & 15cc Gaso
Bought this truck after being out of the hobby for a long time. I was initially impressed with it, starts easy, tuning is simple and it just looks awesome overall. But after running about 15 tanks though it the exhaust manifold started spewing oil down the side of the engine. Having fixed that now my CDI is dead and I'm still waiting on the warranty repair/replacement. Overall I think this is a very fun truck but for the price parts should not be failing within 2 weeks, HPI defiantly still has a few bugs to work out with this one.
