HPI Savage XL FLUX GTXL-6 1/8 4WD RTR Brushless Monster Truck
I own one of these, unfortunately did not get a chance to buy it from Amain before it became available here therefore I can't prove that I am a verified owner. But the truck has exceeded my expectations. Yes it is not 100% perfect out of the box, but it's close enough. If you've been into the hobby for years, you will know what to do with new kits. I also do my run down and do a once over on all RTRs I've owned, and with just a little bit of time getting the set up dialed in, it's a blast to run and enjoy. Parts are also becoming more available which is a plus.

HPI Savage XL FLUX GTXL-6 1/8 4WD RTR Brushless Monster Truck
Good to see HPI back but under the current ownership, the quality has taken a big hit with the production shifted to China. Original HPI kits used to be Made in Japan and were as good as Kyosho, if not better. Taiwan made kits were also 'acceptable' but nothing special. However, present Chinese made HPI Kits are pretty cheap quality. Although they're better than Traxxas, Arrma and other American and Chinese brands but not even close to the Japanese made Kyosho or European made XRAY kits. The price they're selling being sold at is at par or higher than Kyosho and XRAY if you factor in the electronics etc. So, it really doesn't make sense to buy a Chinese made low quality kit when you can get a better Japanese/European made kit that will last longer and offers better quality of stock parts where you don't even need to upgrade unless you plan on racing. To mention a few issues with this new truck, please read below:

1. The slipper clutch had wobble and had to be aligned/set again
2. No reverse option out of the box. He had to re-program the tx/rx
3. Endpoint adjustment was totally off on the radio
4. The tires came unglued in the first run itself
5. The diffs are still grease filled instead of oil
6. The diffs blew on the first run itself although we were running the truck cautiously being the first run. Later we figured the diffs were not shimmed properly which is definitely not expected from an expensive truck
7. The plastics being used all around (A Arms, boxes, etc.) are still low quality and seem brittle and sloppy
8. The steering and suspension components have a lot of play & slop which was literally absent on my Taiwan made #112617
9. The build quality is not up to HPI's standards by any means, it feels cheap and carbon reinforced plastics are totally absent from this truck but almost every part on the Taiwan made trucks had those reinforced plastics.

Given the above, I'd not be buying HPI again until they shift the production back to Japan or Europe (Where they can get subsidies). I'm ready to pay the price for a quality kit rather than cheap out and settle for junk. Till then I'm only paying my money to Kyosho, Mugen, Tamiya, Yokomo and XRAY.
