Crawler Innovations "Lil Nova 4.50" 1.9" Crawler Foam (2) (Standard/Medium)
Why did I not get these sooner???!!! They are amazing!
I got some Duratrax Showdowns and mounted them on Axial Capra kit plastic beadlocks, just to use them for daily trailing and light crawling. Nothing too serious. At first I said great they already come with factory foams. Save me some money! It took a huge effort to get the tires mounted with the factory supplied foams. And once you get it done, you realized that the foams are over sized and you end und with one spot where it bunches up. It's as if the diameter of the foams were too big for the diameter of the tires. To make things worse, you end up with a high spot so if you are driving on a flat surface, say the parking lot, you truck bounced up and down like a horse! :)
Being frugal I took a chance on these instead of the Pro Line dual stage. Many people have raved about these and now I know while. These fit perfectly and don't bunch up inside. Without even running the truck, I can see how the dual stage concept will give the truck much better performance on lateral maneuvers. It's more resistance to side forces with the stiffer inner ring.
NOTE, they advise you to vent the tires. I'm not much of a fan of venting tires due to potential water intrusion, not that I go looking for puddles. What I did was remove the inner, stiffer, closed cell rings and drill 1.5mm holes through them in opposition locations. The beadlock rings that come with the Capra kit wheels have a raised channel in the middle allowing air to flow to the vent holes. You don't even have to align the holes in the foam with the holes in the ring. As long as they are in the middle, air will flow. This may not work if you have rings that are flat like a piece of pipe. Then you will have to align the holes. I have a set of steel beadlocks like that so with those it may not work so well.
Buy these, you won't be sorry! :)
