Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/8 Scale Sensorless Brushless ESC
This ESC is very powerful and very reliable. I have only used 4-cell batteries. I would compare it to the Mamba Monster X. This might be rated for 11 lb offroad vehicles while the monster x is rated 15 lbs, but i own both and they feel equally powerful in my 11 lb 1/8 scale truggy. I have to turn on 30% punch control on both to keep them on the ground. (punch control is power reduction)

I have submerged this ESC in mud, and went on racing, on several occasions.
This ESC is sensorless but it has a significantly smoother takeoff than a traxxas vxl sensorless ESC. It has no power switch which is a good thing to most people, less sophisticated usually means more reliable- and in this case it certainly is rock solid. I removed the top of my case and i can see the entire circuit board/device was submerged in clear epoxy during manufacture, making it completely waterproof except for the 3 bullets for motor plug-in and 5 pins for plugging in the receiver and fan wires- that connection is to be dielectric-greased upon installation for a very reliable waterproof system.
I have looked inside my mamba monster x to compare construction and they look extremely similar. the exact same technique is used to waterproof what looks like the exact same circuitry plus 1 row of chips- the ones that give motor sensor capabilities.
I am left wondering if this sidewinder 8 is actually able to handle a 15 lb vehicle, rather than just 11 lb as listed.
In any case, this ESC is only about 100$. You can get this ESC combined with a 150$ 1515 2200kv sensored motor for 180$. If you are interested in a 2200kv motor at all, buy that combo! The motor full price+ this 100$ powerhouse ESC for +30$ These arent sale prices- i got my first combo on sale for 150$

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/8 Scale Sensorless Brushless ESC
I'm knocking a star off for the lack of an on/off switch.

Overall, I like Castle speed controls. They are at a decent budget price and great for either a back up or a general fun R/C. This one is running a 2400kV 550 motor on 2S in a 1990 Tamiya King Cab. I don't expect any issues, and this work great in my setup.
