Its fine, but a litter underpowered and not as good as the R1 Axe
I am comparing this to the Gen 1 Axe 550 2700kv.
It’s definitely smoother and the added function of having throttle/brake/reverse and throttle/reverse is better than the AXE Gen1. The throttle seems to be smoother and has a slightly better low speed control despite being 100kv higher, but there's a problem.
The Axe Gen 1 2700kv is pretty much silent under any kind of load on both first and second gear (On the TRX6), and plows through anything with ease. However, on the Axe R2, starting on second gear causes the motor to emit a loud whine due to it being overstressed, even on the highest throttle matching setting. The axe R2 cannot do a standing burnout like the R1 can without overstressing the motor and going at a really high throttle.
Even on first gear while doing steep climbs, the AXE R2 emits that same whine. While it is slightly smaller than the Axe R1, it doesn't have nearly as much torque at low speed. This might be fine for lighter rigs or people who don’t mind the sound. It would be nice if hobbywing made an AXE r2 with a lower KV in 550 form.
Edit: I asked some friends about wether they have had the same issue, they said theirs works well. Maybe I recieved a defective system fom hobbywing. I contacted them for a replacement, so I'll see how they respond.
Great product as always with hobbywing. Great tunable software, easy to install and comprehend. Amain has service second to none. Thanks
Bought this and had Amain do the install. What a difference and having the phone interface to change parameters is easy. Cool. And Fast.
This guy, I put him in an element ecto after having the Hobbywing 1800kv 2/1 motor in it. Just not quite enough power. I have other rigs with castle motors that I live but I wanted to try the axe and see how they perform. I’d have to say it was perfect for what I was looking for. Just a bit more torque and the idle speed if you wanted to hop up a rock but still has the super smooth low end throttle control. Ecto is a single speed so the extra kv gives you some boost when your just going from one obstacle to the next. Very happy with this purchase.
Hobbywing axe products are great for crawlers, brushless sensored motor with excellent response, you can go reaaaaaly slow, or even fast. I got my combo with 2800kv and I use it with 3s on my axial bomber. I'm still building it for rock bouncing, and already promises great speed and torque for the purpose. I like it is set up using a smart phone, probably the only disadvantage is that you have to turn the car off so the changes are applied, but no big deal. Haven't done a field test yet, but expect to it in a couple of weeks.
*UPDATE*
Gave it some speed tests on gravel, performs really well, would probably give me around 45km/h with stock bomber pinion and 3s battery. I don't need more speed, as for rock bouncing the acceleration it provides will be more than enough.
An amazing motor and ESC. I’m not just saying it either, I’ve purchased the 2800kv 540L it has punch, it has slow, slow control. On my crawler I did gear it down a lot and now my buddies are jealous as heck. I let my friends mom drive it, not sure how old she is but we are not in our 50’s. I got out the phone, made a few adjustments via Bluetooth. She was giggling for about 20 minutes. Felt awesome to hear that. Thanks
I am new to the RC rock crawling hobby. I built the SCX10 ii UMG and selected this motor combination for power. It was easy to install, easy to program, and it has plenty of torque and speed. A great purchase at a great price. I absolutely love it!
Purchased for my scx10 ii builder kit working great only about 3 packs through it but preformed flawlessly and I've subedmarined it 2 times and no problems the bluetooth is great plenty of power and adjustability
Great system, plenty of punch and speed when you need it. Absolutely no cogging at low crawling speed. Thanks again you are my go to for everything rc
Easy to install, easy to tune with app, and it’s so smooth. I put it in my Gatekeeper. The this thing can creep and also has plenty of wheel speed for my needs. The FOC doesn’t flinch and is so, so smooth. Love this combo.
This combo is freakin AWESOME!!!!!
The app compatibility is on point.
The motor has more than enough power. I am extremely happy with my purchase. It definitely will not disappoint.
I have to say this Hobbywing motor is perfect for my Gencat 8. It has the low end speed u want to crawl and the high end speed to move along if needed. I def will be getting more for my other rigs. It was easy to install and fit just as well. If you are looking for that perfect crawling motor that also has some top speed this is it!
Awesome product! If you are building a crawler and looking for performance and total control of your rig this combo is exactly what you need . Best decision you would ever make
Great setup you have great low end power and great wheel speed too . If you get this setup.you will love it hobbywing axe systems has been great for me and my crew and amain is the best.
Once again epic purchase epic customer service epic delivery from Amain hobbies! Nothing but love from odd garage! ????
The AXE 540 L is an awesome brushless motor, however hobbywings app to tune your ESC, does not work, once I change any of the settings, my rig can only turn, no throttle, but once I turn the app off, my rig is fine, but I want more then just the defaults, please help!
